Stress Management and Prevention Resource Guide – Kaplan University – HW499

Stress can be perceived as good, bad, or indifferent depending upon how it is addressed and how it is managed in a person’s life. It can begin with a minuscule “crisis” such as a failed alarm clock and snowball  its way through rush-hour traffic, into the office where the boss is impossible, out to lunch where the waiter is inept, back to work where the deadlines are piled higher than the papers to be filed on the corner of the desk, back through rush-hour traffic, to a starving family incapable of being placated with cheese sandwiches and tomato soup for dinner, and culminating in the evening news with stories of the horrors of war, famine, poverty, and a rise in the cost of coffee beans due to a long rainy season in Costa Rica. It is indeed a fact of life, yet the vast numbers of American’s facing health crises from the inability to effectively manage this issue is a red flag indicator that we, as a nation, are not attacking the monster head-on in positive and proactive ways that create dynamic results. From addressing the nature of stress to the creation of a blueprint for managing stressful situations in everyday life, this resource guide provides journal writing and assessment exercises to assist individuals with evaluating the impact negative stress has on everyday life and identifying healthy ways to effectively manage this inescapable reality of life.

Diet and Nutrition

Contemporary diet and nutrition are about so much more than what we eat or how much we eat, or even the quality of the foods we eat. The subject matter is vast, and includes the use of genetically modified foods and the potential contraindications these franken-foods introduce to our bodies; the personal health considerations for eating a primarily organic food diet; the economics of eating healthy when funds are limited; the pros and cons involved in choosing to eat locally grown and raised food; how we can protect ourselves from food-borne illness; and locating viable resources for managing our weight without falling prey to every new fad  or Dr. Oz trend that pops up in mainstream media. This resource guide is a great place to begin seeing answers to the most basic and complex issues we face in this nation daily.
